Therefore, it is crucial to rest during this period and avoid strenuous activities and stress. Women with constipation should eat fiber-rich foods, drink plenty of water, and avoid smoking and alcohol. In some cases, medication may be necessary during this period.

There are various painkillers available to relieve menstrual cramps. However, these medications should be taken just before the cramps begin. Birth control pills have also been found to help with menstrual pain. If underlying conditions such as fibroids, polyps, or infections are causing the pain, these should be treated first.

Remedies for Menstrual Cramps

  • Avoid heavy physical activities and tasks that require a lot of strength during both the premenstrual and menstrual periods. Do not overexert yourself during this time.
  • Be mindful not to get cold during this period, especially your feet and lower back. Wear warm clothing, especially during colder days.
  • Regular exercise, especially Pilates, has been shown to reduce menstrual cramps.
  • Lastly, experts recommend eating bananas during this time, as they are believed to help relieve cramps.
